Parks Canada presents HMCS Haida during World War II

This network activity, HMCS Haida during World War II, is being hosted by LEARN in collaboration with Parks Canada. The intended audience for this session is Secondary students (Grades 7-11).

During the Second World War, Canadians made huge contributions to the war effort of the Royal Canadian Navy, building hundreds of warships, and joining the crews of corvettes and destroyers that sailed all over the world. HMCS Haida is one of the last remaining Canadian ships that served during WWII. During the war, it became famous as “Canada’s Fightingest Ship”. What was life like aboard this famous destroyer, which served in the Arctic Ocean and English Channel during WWII? 
Students are invited to virtually explore the decks of HMCS Haida while learning about how Canada’s rapid industrialization during the war supported Allied sailors and soldiers all over the world. Students will learn about the men and women who served in the Royal Canadian Navy and the lasting impacts of their contribution and sacrifice.

What to Expect 

Join Parks Canada experts for an interactive virtual session projected directly in your classroom via MS Teams.

• Teacher’s Role: Register, project the MS Teams link, and facilitate student responses.
• Student’s Role: Watch the presentation and participate in live polls/quizzes.
• Materials Required: A main projector/screen with audio. Student devices for AhaSlides are recommended but optional (teachers can submit answers on behalf of the whole class).
