Parks Canada presents The Science of Blacksmithing

This network activity, The Science of Blacksmithing, is being hosted by LEARN in collaboration with Parks Canada. The intended audience for this session is Cycles 2 & 3 (Grades 3-6) Elementary students.

Blacksmiths played a vital role at Hudson's Bay Company trading posts across Canada, and Fort Langley on the BC coast was not exception. Learn the science behind how blacksmiths use the heat of the forge and precision techniques to shape metal into practical tools and wonderous works of art.

What to Expect 

Join Parks Canada experts for an interactive virtual session projected directly in your classroom via MS Teams.

• Teacher’s Role: Register, project the MS Teams link, and facilitate student responses.
• Student’s Role: Watch the presentation and participate in live polls/quizzes.
• Materials Required: A main projector/screen with audio. Student devices for AhaSlides are recommended but optional (teachers can submit answers on behalf of the whole class).
