Parks Canada presents Doing the Bug Dance at Kouchibouguac

This network activity, Doing the Bug Dance at Kouchibouguac, is being hosted by LEARN in collaboration with Parks Canada. The intended audience for this session is Kindergarten to Grade 3 (Grades K-3) Elementary students.

Join us live in the field to discover how scientists monitor river health using aquatic insects! Using a technique we call the “bug dance,” we dislodge these small creatures from their habitat to observe them up close. Students will learn to recognize fascinating groups such as mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies, and understand why their presence (or absence) tells us about water quality. They will also discover the essential role insects play in food webs and ecosystems. A dynamic immersion into the world of natural sciences alongside real experts!

What to Expect 

Join Parks Canada experts for an interactive virtual session projected directly in your classroom via MS Teams.

• Teacher’s Role: Register, project the MS Teams link, and facilitate student responses.
• Student’s Role: Watch the presentation and participate in live polls/quizzes.
• Materials Required: A main projector/screen with audio. Student devices for AhaSlides are recommended but optional (teachers can submit answers on behalf of the whole class).
